Our 5th Laos In The House x Lao Heritage Foundation Summer Camp in Philly returns!
Lao Heritage Foundation will once again partner with Laos In The House to teach students to sing, dance and play classical Lao songs taught by master musicians. Traditional instruments that will be available for practice include khaen, lannat, kim, kong wong, saw, xing, and that phon. We encourage new students and their families to observe together on the first day of camp - adults students are also welcomed to register!
Here's what's happening at LITH x LHF Lao Summer Camp Philly 2024:
Schedule is Sunday 7/21 to Saturday 7/28, 8:30AM-3:30PM
breakfast, lunch and snacks included
music and song lessons using instruments from Laos
traditional dance choreography (fon, lumvong, basalop)
proper Lao phrases and cultural etiquette addressing elders and monks
cooking class using ingredients and techniques native to Lao cuisine
final day recital with invitation for families to watch
Students will be grouped by age (we accept students starting at 5 years old) and assigned together with a teaching artist to guide them throughout each lesson and activity. In addition to practicing as a group, students will work together on team-building exercises and explore activities in the visual and performing arts. The structure of our programs will give students the chance to learn customs and phrases traditional to Lao culture all while developing creative skills for self-expression and problem-solving by thinking outside the box.
Lao Summer Camp will take place on Sunday July 21- 27 2024 at Lao Buddhist Temple of North Philadelphia at 335 E Chew Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19120.
Final day camp recital will take place Saturday July 27 at Fleisher Art Memorial at 719 Catharine St, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
