7. ລຳພູໄທ Lum Pu Tai By Phouvong Phetphouthong
Pu Tai is actually the name of another ethnic group in Laos (and Thailand) and Lum Pu Tai are usually courtship songs. The slow tempo of this version ensures it's about to be sexy time - I mean the first lines go "Oh girl so pretty". The rest of the song is checking out his intended lover's dating status, lineage and wealth - and if you keep listening you'll hear a very subtle "ma der" (come here) near the end. Flirty lyrics aside, Phouvong does a few ceremonial things in the video, like getting the sukwon wrist blessings and showing how men fawn.
In the version used in our HouseGuest video, the woman sings of a lost husband, perhaps to signify she's single and available. Hey, ya gotta move on.
